Guinea Pig Interleukin 1a

IL1a is a proinflammatory cytokine that binds to the IL-1R1 receptor to mediate activation of myriad downstream immune cytokines and immune mediators.  It is constitutively expressed in most cell types and can be located in the plasma membrane, nucleus or the cytosol.  Il1a is sequestered during normal cell death, but is released from necrotic cells and signals a loss of membrane integrity to other cells.  Upon release from the cell, IL1a is proteolytically cleaved to create a more biologically active C terminal end.
